Do you struggle with loose dentures? If so, you likely understand how difficult it is to chew certain foods. Tough, sticky, and crunchy foods can be a challenge to break down, often forcing patients to alter their diets. If you’re struggling to eat with loose or floating dentures, it’s time to find a more stable solution. With snap-in dentures at Aesthetic Dental, you can secure your smile in place for years to come! Using mini dental implants, we anchor your restoration to your jawbone, providing a strong bite that allows you to chew confidently.
What Foods Can You Not Chew With Loose Dentures?
To chew effectively, you need a strong and secure bite. This bite allows your teeth to break down foods into smaller chunks that can be digested. Without bite strength, patients like you may find it difficult to eat certain foods, like:
- Meat
- Corn on the cob
- Nuts
- Hard vegetables
- Seeds
- Peanut Butter
- Carmel
- And more!
Over time, patients typically need to adjust their diet to accommodate their weak bite. While sticking to soft foods may work initially, there are only so many mashed potato and scrambled egg meals a person can enjoy.
In fact, patients with these dietary restrictions may be at higher risk of malnutrition, as it’s more challenging to eat a well-balanced meal with only soft foods.
Fortunately, Aesthetic Dental offers a more secure solution to tooth loss than loose dentures.
Using Mini Dental Implants To Secure Your Bite!
When you’re dealing with loose dentures, we use dental implants to anchor your prosthetic in place.
Once embedded in your jaw, these titanium screws bond with your bone to create a stable connection. Then, using this connection, we attach a crown, bridge, or denture to your implants to restore your smile.
While Aesthetic Dental offers both conventional and mini dental implants, we often prefer mini implants due to their added benefits.
Instead of requiring multiple placement appointments and an invasive procedure, mini implants offer:
- A less invasive alternative.
- A more affordable price.
- A less time-consuming procedure.
- A more comfortable treatment.
- And a faster healing time!
Using mini dental implants, we can secure your smile in place without the hassle of traditional implants.
Understanding Snap-In Dentures
For those who want a denture that resembles a traditional one but with more support, a snap-in denture may be the right solution. This prosthetic uses 4 to 6 mini dental implants to secure in your smile, while still maintaining its removability.
Mini implants have a special “O-ball” design, with a screw on one end and a small sphere on the other that sticks out above your gums. Inside the denture base, there are housings with rubber “O-rings” that allow the O-ball to “snap” into place.
By applying a gentle but steady pressure to your denture, you can snap the implants through the O-ring, either securing your smile in place or removing it for cleaning. With removable dentures, we reccomend removing your prosthesis after you eat and rinsing it under water. This both gives your gums a break and also keeps the restoration free of foods that may get stuck underneath.
Then, when you’re ready to put your denture back on, line the housings up with your implants and press gently until it “snaps” back in place.
Transforming Your Denture Into a Snap-In Denture
Additionally, if your denture is in excellent condition, we may even be able to transform your current smile into a snap-in denture! However, this process only works if your prosthetic fits well and is large enough to accommodate implants.
To transform your denture, we begin by adding housings to its base. Then, inside those housings, we secure O-rings that occasionally need to be replaced. Finally, we’ll remove the bulky upper palate that traditional dentures use for retention, which covers your upper taste buds.
After strategically placing your implants in your jawbone, we can secure your denture to them.
